This weekend I went to rural Tennessee to see a music festival.
BIG RED (from all over TN) played traditional Native American music; the set was entertaining, educational, and personal all at once.
GUHTS (B-ham, AL) Hardcore gnome glitch-core with machine and brain fuzz overloading the signal.
PONY BONES (Decatur, GA) Weirder than New Weird America and as weird as Old Weird America: "I'm gonna buy me a dawwwg . . . so I can shoot it!" Another great show.
MR. NATURAL (Nashville, TN) was in his element. Just back from providing tech support for Mr. Costes, Mr. Natural can hold his own without all the bird poo. He knows his way around that equipment and it shows: what I imagine it would be like to watch Julia Child's make an omlet for breakfast.
WITHERED (Atlanta, GA) Black metal so good it made me want to move back to the country, get a trailer, and live out my fate as one of those black metal chicks. WITHERED is playing again at Eyedrum in Atlanta on the 19th with the Chicago-based industrial group BLOODYMINDED who I saw at No Fun Fest last year. If you are really into goth historical reenactments, then I suggest you make it a weekend and swing by Atlanta's Renaissance fair on the way back.
